A Front-Row Experience at IN2MF Paris: Where Indonesian Modesty Meets Global Fashion

FRONT ROW EXPERIENCE IN PARIS MODEST FASHION FESTIVAL

I took a journey from London to Paris specifically to attend the 4th annual IN2MF Front Row Paris at The Westin Paris – Vendôme. Organized by the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC) and Bank Indonesia, this event is a significant milestone in Indonesia’s ambition to become a global fashion hub, especially in the modest fashion sector.

The Front Row and Highlights

While I was sitting in the front row across from Ivan Gunawan—an experience in itself—, what truly made the event unforgettable for me was the firsthand experience I gained post-show. I had the opportunity to try on my favorite dress from all the collections—a stunning gown by KHANAAN that was a blend of silk and batik beauty. I even took measurements and exchanged contacts with the designer, looking forward to welcoming her at London Fashion Week in a couple of days, and I hope she manages to bring me personally the dress which is will be a true statement piece in my wardrobe.

An Archipelago of Talent

Designers graced the event from all corners of Indonesia, a country comprising approximately 17,000 islands. It was heartwarming to see representation from islands I have personally visited, like Nusa Penida. When traditional Balinese music filled the air during the runway shows, I was overcome with sentimentality, and a tear escaped my eye.

The Show-Stealer

Without a doubt, the show was stolen by the finale of the day of Ivan Gunawan and his exclusive, heavily crafted sparkling beaded gown collection. I had the chance to go backstage to congratulate and chat with him. Ivan was incredibly humble and a huge inspiration for me. His craftsmanship left an indelible impression on me, reminding me of why I have such a deep love and respect for Indonesian design, especially as someone who has lived in Bali for three years and runs her sustainable and ethical label there.

His collection was described on his Instagram as follows:

“Fashion Collection by Ivan Gunawan. Elegance meets History as we celebrate the grandeur of the Kingdom of Majapahit in every stitch, reflecting the majestic spires, intricate carvings, and regal motifs that once adorned the ancient temples. Step into the past, adorned in modern sophistication, and let the echoes of a bygone era grace your every move. Be prepared for embarking on a Timeless Journey of the collection.”

Strategic Timing and Global Reach

The event was cleverly scheduled two weeks before Paris Fashion Week, aiming to gain maximum exposure. During a press conference, Ali Charisma, Chairman of IFC, -replying to my question- confirmed that Indonesian modest fashion is broadening its horizons to new markets like the Middle East, Europe, and even Russia.

Conclusion: A Mission Beyond the Runway

IN2MF Front Row Paris was not just another huge success fashion event packed with industry insiders; it was a mission to position Indonesia as a global leader -the worldwide fashion hub- for the modest fashion industry, and this event showcased exactly why that vision is not just a dream but a reality in the making. Indonesia is my home too, and after what I’ve seen and experienced on the runways here, I cannot wait to return to Bali.

KHANAAN’s dress was a revelation for me, reshaping my understanding of modest fashion. As someone who never felt comfortable flaunting in traditionally provocative Western styles, I’ve always leaned towards class, elegance, and conscious fashion. I treasure my wardrobe filled with showstopper pieces—unique handcrafts, prints, and cuts. KHANAAN’s collection and the innovative headpieces, which offered a fresh take on the traditional hijab, showed me that modest fashion deserves the world’s attention.

Attending IN2MF has broadened my perspectives, and I can confidently say that modest fashion has found a rightful and resounding voice, and Indonesia is the stage where this voice will continue to resonate.

A Special Acknowledgment

Before I conclude, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Rebecca Mullins, CEO of We Are FEP Group. It was her generous invitation that made it possible for me to attend such a grandiose and transformative event. Your invitation not only provided me access to the pinnacle of Indonesian fashion but also enriched my understanding of the cultural depth and global potential of the modest fashion industry. Thank you, Becky, for this incredible experience and thank you London, my friend @byicon for joining me and making this weekend so memorable.

About Indonesia

Closing this post I could not think of anything better, than giving you a little insight about Indonesia itself, and since I have been relocating myself from Indonesia, first to London, and now to Dubai, here are some important facts to know between the Indonesian and United Arab Emirates fashion business connection.
